Bell Annealing Stack Builder Successfully Completes Trial at USS Irvin Plant, Open Coil Annealing Facility

Dravosburg, PA

Wengert Software Engineering, Inc. has provided U.S. Steel with a second Optimized Stack Building system (BASB). The first one has been used for more than one year to provide optimized stacks for the hydrogen (HPH) bell annealing facility. This latest system has been in trials at the Open Coil Annealing (OCA) facility for the last several months. Recently, the OCA BASB has been proven to provide better, more reliable OCA stacks than had been previously done using manual techniques. USS is currently in the process of requisitioning additional WSE services to fully integrate the OCA BASB with crane management software (BACT) as was done in the HPH anneal area. In addition, USS plans to purchase the full shop optimization package (BASS and BASM) for the OCA facility to maximize its production.
