WSE to Provide Bell Annealing Stack Builder (BASB) for Open Coil Annealing facility at United States Steel's Irvin Plant
Dravosburg, PA
Wengert Software Engineering, Inc. has been selected by USS Irvin Plant to provide them with our Bell Annealing Stack Builder (BASB) program. This program optimally builds stacks from available coils of cold-rolled sheet steel. BASB will be customized to follow standard USS rules and practices for building stacks for the open coil annealing (OCA) facility. This facility consists of furnaces with two distinct heights, making the stacking algorithm somewhat more difficult to implement. Moreover, BASB will also have the freedom to split coils into two or more smaller coils as well as "wrap-in" smaller coils to make larger coils. Initial testing will begin on or about 1 October 1999. At that time, BASB will be run against current manual stacking in order to determine the amount of improvement BASB will provide. In phase II, BASB will completely take over the role of stack building in the OCA facility.
BASB has a proven track record with USS having already been installed and operational for nearly one year at the USS Irvin Plant's Hydrogen Bell Annealing facility. BASB provides optimally built stacks, thus increasing thru-put at existing facilities without the need for costly, protracted capital equipment expenditures.
